GOOD FOOD AND CULINARY HINT & TIPS
A few steps away you will find:
the market that used to be one of Rome’s most important and traditional markets. It was located outdoors at the center of Piazza Vittorio and used to be run mostly by Italian –or rather Roman- vendors. As the Esquilino district evolved into a multiethnic neighborhood, the market was moved indoors in a former milk plant just east of the piazza, and it becames a multiethnic market, also an interesting place to visit to immerse yourself in an exotic atmosphere.
The moltitude of colors, exotic fruits, a surprising variety of spices, rice, barley, beans, bran, in addition to fresh fish and meat will surprise you. As the New York Times once wrote it as the ‘best money saving tip’ for Rome when visiting the Eternal City on a budget.
Worth visiting Ice cream parlour is the historical Palazzo del Freddo di Giovanni Fassi, one of the best ice creams in Rome until 1929!
In the neighborhood there are buffalo mozzarella’s retailers in which to buy also other typical dairy products;
Norcineria’s shops in which to find traditional Italian salami, hams and typical cured meats. “Norcineria” it’s a term coming from the city of Norcia in the center of Italy. Butchers coming from there where considered in ancient Rome very expert in butchery and in castrating pigs;
In front of Palazzo Brancaccio Panella bakery is very famous for the a large variety of pastries and breads.
